But does cold therapy actually work, or is it just another fitness fad? The answer, as with most things in exercise science, is nuanced. There are genuine benefits, some overhyped claims, and important considerations specific to training in Malaysia's climate.
The Science of Cold Water Immersion
When you submerge your body in cold water (typically 10 to 15 degrees Celsius for therapeutic purposes), several physiological responses occur.

The Important Caveats
Cold Water May Blunt Muscle Growth

Aim for a water temperature of 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. A cheap kitchen thermometer (RM10 to RM20) helps you dial in the right temperature.
Start with 2 to 3 minutes and gradually work up to 10 to 15 minutes over several weeks. Submerge up to your waist or chest, keeping your hands and feet out initially if the cold feels overwhelming.
