Bodybuilding Posing Guide
Learn the mandatory bodybuilding poses. A guide for Malaysian bodybuilding competitors and enthusiasts.
Whether you are competing in Malaysian bodybuilding federations (MABB, IFBB) or just want to show off your physique, knowing the mandatory poses is essential. Posing is the art of presenting your muscle development - and it takes practice.
The 8 Mandatory Poses
1. Front Double Biceps
The classic pose. Arms up, fists clenched, flex everything - arms, chest, abs, quads. Spread your lats wide, keep your waist tight.
2. Front Lat Spread
Hands on hips, elbows flared forward, push your lats out as wide as possible. This demonstrates your V-taper. Keep abs tight and quads flexed.
3. Side Chest
Turn sideways, clasp hands in front, push your chest forward. Flex the near arm's bicep. Bend the near leg slightly to flex the calf and quad.
4. Side Tricep
Turn sideways, extend the near arm behind you, grab the wrist with the far hand, and push your tricep outward. Flex your abs and legs.
5. Rear Double Biceps
Back to the judges, arms up, flex biceps and back simultaneously. Show your lat width, rear delts, glutes, hamstrings, and calves.
6. Rear Lat Spread
Back to judges, hands on hips, spread your lats as wide as possible. Show back thickness and width.
7. Abdominals and Thighs
Arms behind head, one leg forward, crunch your abs, flex your quads. This is the pose that separates conditioned competitors from everyone else.
8. Most Muscular (Crab Pose)
Optional in some federations. Hands together in front, flex everything simultaneously. The crowd favourite.
